Our client in the construction sector is seeking a Controller to lead the accounting function and act as a key partner to the President and operations team. This role oversees full-cycle accounting and reporting, including journal entries, reconciliations, payroll, divisional reporting, tax compliance, and annual budgets. The Controller will also prepare monthly financial statements, coordinate year-end requirements, and implement effective accounting controls and procedures to ensure accuracy and compliance across the organization.
The position is hands-on and requires active engagement in both leadership and execution. In addition to managing a small accounting team, the Controller will support contracts and personnel records, liaise with external accountants and insurers, and file required regulatory and tax returns. The successful candidate will also play an important role in analyzing results, anticipating management needs, and providing timely insights to support operational and strategic decision-making.
The ideal candidate will hold a CPA designation with 5–10 years of progressive accounting experience, including supervisory responsibilities and exposure to multi-entity environments. Construction or insurance restoration industry experience is an asset, as are strong systems skills with Excel and Sage. This role requires a collaborative, proactive professional comfortable leading the finance function while working closely with operations to drive efficiency and success.
