OVERVIEW OF RESPONSIBILITIES

A Sheet Metal Foreperson oversees the daily operations of Sheet metal crews on construction and industrial sites, ensuring that work is completed safely, efficiently, and according to specifications. Their role includes hands-on supervision while maintaining communication with upper management.

 

  • Supervision & Coordination – Directs sheet metal crew members, assigns tasks, and ensures smooth workflow.
  • Worksite Planning – Organizes daily activities, reviews blueprints, and ensures materials and tools are ready for use.
  • Safety & Compliance – Enforces safety protocols, conducts inspections, and ensures adherence to regulations.
  • Quality Assurance – Monitors sheet metal installation for accuracy and compliance with standards.
  • Problem-Solving – Addresses technical challenges and resolves any worksite issues.
  • Reporting & Documentation – Maintains daily logs, progress reports, and communicates updates to supervisors.
  • Training & Development – Provides guidance to workers, ensuring skill development and adherence to best practices.

A Sheet Metal Foreperson serves as a vital link between labor crews and project managers, ensuring smooth operations on-site.

 

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Trade Qualification
  • High School Diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, time management and multi-tasking in order to prioritize workload and stay on top of things as project demands increase
  • Excellent organizational and decision making/problem solving skills.
  • Ability to analyze and understand construction drawings, associated documentation, contracts, cost coding systems and work breakdown structures
  • Customer focused & resourceful
  • Experience with troubleshooting maintenance and service-related tasks
  • Knowledge of supervisory practices and principles and ability to effectively plan, assign and inspect the work of subordinates.
  • Ability to maintain time and material records and to prepare reports and cost estimates.
  • Skill in the use of the tools and equipment of the trade.
  • Experience in commercial and institutional projects is an asset
