This is hybrid role is based out of Toronto that reports into the Senior Technology Officer. As an AI/ML Engineer, you will be part of the AI pod supporting the design and development of business-to-consumer (B2C) applications leveraging AI at BMO. You will lead initiatives to develop, test, deploy and maintain AI/ML models in BMO’s cloud environments alongside a pod of data scientists, developers and other key stakeholders. You will make recommendations on the design of AI/ML solutions, guide the defining of requirements and coordinate developers to meet requirements. This role is part of an AI pod in an agile framework in which you will support a Product Owner (PO) and Scrum Master by being their technical advisor on the engineering feasibility for AI/ML solutions.
Main Responsibilities:
Designs and develops AI/ML systems, including the development of solutions that leverage generative AI using retriever augmented generation (RAG) approaches
Package and deploy models into production using AWS services, including the building of real-time and batch inference pipelines
In partnership with data scientists, convert models or SaaS services from POCs in lower environments into production ready systems, including development of monitoring plans
Alongside solution architects, data architectures and business analytics / product owners, create the overall design of an AI solution to meet business and non-functional requirements
Develop applications to host AI/ML Models or leverage cloud AI SaaS services and create data flows to downstream consumers
Research and experiment with cloud AI/ML services in AWS and Azure to inform business and data science stakeholders on capabilities available to support their use cases
Translate business and data science requirements into infrastructure work packages for cloud deployment, collaborating with cross-functional teams
About You
4-7 years of experience in AI/ML product engineering, software engineering, or other related field
Proficiency with Python and SQL
Proficiency with AI/ML services in one ore more cloud platforms, with a focused on AWS and/or Azure, including
AWS: Sagemaker, Bedrock, Lambda, S3, Step functions, ECS/ Fargate
Azure: Azure AI services, AI Foundry, Azure ML Studio, Azure Storage, Functions
Cloud Certifications (e.g. AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner, Azure AZ-900) are preferred
Experience developing and implementing Retriever Augmented Generation (RAG) solutions using multimodal LLMS with frameworks such as Langchain/Langraph or equivalents
Familiarity with Agentic AI foundation models and concepts including orchestration, tool use, memory and context window management, etc.
Familiarity with Cloud Development Kit (CDK) constructions and customization

Salaries will vary based on factors such as location, skills, experience, education, and qualifications for the role, and may include a commission structure. Salaries for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on number of hours regularly worked. For commission roles, the salary listed above represents BMO Financial Group’s expected target for the first year in this position.
