This position is exclusively for the 2025 Toronto Refugee Hiring Event. To be eligible to apply, you must meet the following criteria:

- Arrived in Canada as a refugee (government or private sponsorship), applied for asylum after arriving in Canada (refugee claimant/asylum seeker), or were forcibly displaced. This includes individuals from countries such as Ukraine, Afghanistan, Iran, and others.
- Currently reside in the Greater Toronto Area or near the Greater Toronto Area.
- You can attend the event in person in Toronto on October 17th.
- Eligible to work in Canada (you must have Permanent Residency, Citizenship, or a valid work permit).
- 18 years of age or older.

The ZEP program is scheduled to start in January 2026. This paid opportunity will provide you with mentorship and training in the fundamentals of Underwriting, as well as technical and professional skills development to grow within an Underwriting role at Zurich Canada. 
Reporting to the Underwriting Account Service Supervisor, you will support Underwriters by working on an assigned book of business using multiple tools and resources while developing as an underwriting professional.

Upon completion of the two-year ZEP program, you will

    • Continue to work in a paid, benefit-eligible full-time position at Zurich.
    • Gain significant experience in the Property and Casualty Commercial Insurance industry. 
    • Possess skills for today’s ever-changing marketplace. 

What you will do

    • Review, evaluate and summarize risk exposures, controls, loss history, and financial condition to aid underwriting decisions around submission acceptance or declination.
    • Follows instructions from Underwriters in areas of policy rating, subjective pricing, policy construction, coverages & exclusions, mandatory forms, etc., to accurately quote and issue policies (bonds). 
    • Provides account servicing support in collaboration with Underwriter and Manager, with responsibility for end-to-end servicing processes for new business, renewals, and endorsements for basic to moderately complex business and products. 
    • Supports the Underwriter with broker/agent/distributor/customer interactions by providing basic customer service skills. Responds to written, verbal telephone inquiries appropriately and on time under close supervision by Underwriter and/or Manager.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

    • This is a hybrid work opportunity with in-office presence required (3 Days a Week) in our Toronto office, located at 100 King St. W, Toronto, ON, M5X 1C9
    • The start date for this position will be in January 2026

    • Knowledge of data collection and analysis 
    • Microsoft Office experience 
    • A genuine interest in launching a career in the insurance industry—no prior experience required 
    • Strong analytical thinking and a curious mindset 
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills 
    • Eagerness to learn and grow in a structured training environment 
    • A team-oriented attitude with a passion for delivering great service

$63,500 - $63,500 a year
